Historic homes that tell stories of a region’s past to innovative designs pointing to the future, will feature in this year’s Sunshine Coast Open House program.
Sunshine Coast Mayor Rosanna Natoli said the event was a celebration of the region’s unique identity and design legacy.
Mayor Natoli said a treehouse-inspired home, a reimagined railway shed and lush landscaped gardens were among the highlights of a vibrant program, which runs from October 10 to 19.
She said the festival culminated in the main Open House weekend on October 18 and 19, offering rare access to more than 30 properties.
“You are invited to explore the spaces that shape our region, while celebrating buildings that adapt to climate, honour heritage and inspire community.
Mayo Natoli said this year’s theme, “resilience”, ran through every element of the program from heritage walks and garden tours to new builds that showcase sustainable design and local character.
“From historic treasures that tell the stories of our past, to bold new buildings shaping our future, Sunshine Coast Open House is a celebration of the places that make the Sunshine Coast unique.
“Resilience isn’t just a theme. It reflects how our buildings, communities and landscapes continue to evolve with care, creativity and purpose.”
She said the 2025 program featured a diverse mix of heritage icons, landscaped gardens, contemporary homes and public infrastructure, including:
- Moffat Morphing, a fabulous example of indoor-outdoor living.
- Wallumburn, a resilient renovation nestled in the hinterland.
- Saltair Modular Display Village, showcasing sustainable design for modern living.
- Mundai Dja a new build that blends cultural storytelling with climate-conscious architecture.
- The Shed, a historic railway shed at Palmwoods reimagined for commercial use.
- Majestic Theatre Pomona, Australia’s longest-running silent movie theatre.
- Wheelhouse on Bradman, a quaint riverfront boathouse.
