New GM for nation-leading QIMR Berghofer facility

A leader in the field of biotech and advanced therapeutics is joining QIMR Berghofer as the new General Manager of Q-Gen Cell Therapeutics.

Dr Balaji Somasundaram will join the Brisbane-based medical research institute next week after serving as Director of Chemistry Manufacturing and Control at biotech company Denteric.

In a statement, QIMR Berghofer said Dr Somasundaram, who also previously had senior roles at the UQ Protein Expression Facility, held a PhD in Chemical and Process Engineering from the University of Canterbury and a Bachelor of Biotechnology from Anna University.

It stated Q-Gen Cell Therapeutics, which was also Brisbane based and operated by QIMR Berghofer, was Australia’s leading cell therapy contract manufacturing facility.

“It specializes in the GMP-grade manufacturing of T-cell therapies, supporting clinical trials and translational research across cancer, infectious diseases and autoimmune conditions.”
