A major logistics hub is being built in Bundaberg to service expanding demand in Queensland’s Wide Bay-Burnett region.

FedEx Australasia regional vice president Peter Langley said worked started this week on a new, state-of-the-art facility spanning 5962 square metres.

Mr Langley said the new centre would be equipped with an advanced automated conveyor system capable of sorting up to 1500 packages per hour.

He said the new site, which was set to open in 2026, was designed to meet the rising demand for express freight services and directly supported the region’s robust economic growth.

“Strategically located near a rapidly expanding industrial precinct and Bundaberg Airport, this central site will provide businesses in the Wide Bay-Burnett region with seamless access to our full suite of domestic and international express and freight services.

“This hub will act as a vital link, seamlessly integrating Bundaberg’s thriving industries into our agile domestic network and creating new opportunities for them to compete on the global stage.”

Bundaberg Region Mayor Helen Blackburn said the region had been recognised as the second-fastest-growing local economy in Queensland, with a growth rate of 7.1 percent.

Mayor Blackburn said the local economy was valued at $5.1 billion at the start of 2024, and its Gross Regional Product (GRP) was now estimated at $6.08 billion.

“The arrival of this new FedEx facility is a clear indicator of confidence in our region’s economy,” she said.

“It will not only create new job opportunities during construction and operation but also provide our local businesses with the advanced logistics and improved connectivity they need to thrive and compete on a national and international scale.”
