Aussie Rock band You Am I will be the next group inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame.

ARIA CEO Annabelle Herd said the 10-time ARIA Award winners would be honoured for their contribution to Australian music over the past three decades at the 2025 ARIA Awards on November 19.

Ms Herd said the band, formed in Sydney in the late ’80s, was fronted by the inimitable Tim Rogers, and joined by Andy Kent, Davey Lane and Russell Hopkinson.

“You Am I emerged in the early 1990s with a sound that reshaped the landscape of Australian rock,” she said.

“With their blend of garage grit, power pop hooks, and distinctly local storytelling, the band became one of the most influential and critically acclaimed acts of their generation.”

Ms Herd said You Am I’s landmark albums – Hi Fi Way, Hourly, Daily, and #4 Record – not only topped the ARIA Charts but cemented the band’s legacy as trailblazers of Australia’s alternative music scene.

“Their emotionally raw, lyrically rich songs reflected suburban Australia with both wit and vulnerability, capturing the spirit of a nation through a fuzz pedal and a four-chord truth.”

She said over their career, You Am I had released 11 studio albums and inspired a generation of Australian acts from Jet and Grinspoon to Silverchair to Tame Impala.

“Their explosive live performances are the stuff of legend, with support slots alongside Nirvana, The Rolling Stones, Oasis, and The Who, and a loyal fanbase that has grown with them across three decades.”

Rogers said the band was “bemused, flattered and surprised to be asked to sit at the parents table”.

“The artists in the Hall have had musical adventures of grandeur and righteous acclaim,” he said.

“Our trail of desperation seems more haphazard and with less dazzle. Yet we are giddy and grateful to feel recognition from the music community. We’ll see you out there on the road of endless possibilities.”
