A hillside oasis has taken out the House of the Year Award at the Brisbane Housing & Construction Awards held over the weekend.

The MCD Construction showpiece Birdwood House, built on unforgiving land only a handful of kilometres from the Brisbane CBD, also took out the award for the best Individual Home from $5 million up to $10 million and Best Use of Sloping Sites.

The judges said the property “was a feat only achievable by a handful of residential builders in Brisbane” with the it being among the most complex construction challenges in the team’s 20-year history.

Master Builders Deputy CEO Sue-Ann Fresneda said Saturday night’s awards paid homage to the determination, talent and exceptional craftsmanship that Master Builders were renowned for.

“With billions of dollars of hospitals, schools, and Olympic and Paralympic Games projects in the pipeline, and communities in need of private and social housing, Brisbane’s building and construction industry is both a challenging and exciting one right now,” Ms Fresneda said.

“Each of our winners, and everyone who entered, has made a significant difference across the Greater Brisbane region – whether that looks like crafting a modern masterpiece, breathing new life into a traditional home; leading a large commercial project, or inspiring others through their leadership and commitment.”
