Planning is under way for a new state secondary school in Greenbank, 50km south of Brisbane city.

Queensland Education Minister John-Paul Langbroek said land had been purchased in the fast-growing Greater Flagstone Priority Development Area.

Minister Langbroek said the 9.3-hectare site was located within Mirvac’s Everleigh Development at Greenbank and would cater for future students as population growth continued in the area.

He said the Greater Flagstone Priority Development Area was expected to be home to 138,000 people and about 51,500 dwellings with nearby employment hubs in North Maclean and Bromelton.

“Currently, this area is serviced by Park Ridge State High School and Flagstone State Community College, which have capacity to accommodate the predicted enrolment until at least 2029.”

Minister Langbroek said the Department of Education would start a business case in 2026 to help inform planning and delivery of the new high school which was expected beyond 2028.

He said until a new high school was delivered, enrolments would continue to be accommodated in the surrounding secondary schooling network at local schools.

“We know this fast-growing area will need a new secondary school in the future and that’s why we’re planning ahead and purchasing the land.

“Securing the land now is the financially responsible thing to help keep costs down in the long run.

“While the community continues to grow, we will monitor the pace of residential development, population growth, and enrolment needs.”
