Plans to transform Woolloongabba into a world-class entertainment and housing precinct are gaining momentum.
Deputy Premier and State Development, Infrastructure and Planning Minister Jarrod Bleijie said a formal market engagement process began today (May 20) for the city-shaping precinct.
Minister Bleijie said the private sector was invited to register interest in the development process to transform the nine-hectare area of the inner-city.
“A re-imagined precinct will leave a generational legacy well beyond the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games,” he said.
Minister Bleijie said the nine hectares of prime inner-city land was just two kilometres from the CBD, with combined sites connected to key public transport infrastructure, including the South East Busway and future Woolloongabba Cross River Rail Station.
“Following the formal market engagement, a competitive process will be developed to invite the private sector to submit proposals.”
He said the new precinct would unlock:
- Tourism opportunities through major events, sports, and experiences.
- New investment attraction in hospitality, retail, and residential development.
- Increased housing and urban activation.
- Access and connectivity to the Cross River Rail line, minutes from the CBD.
“We have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to capitalise on the 2032 Games and transform Woolloongabba into a vibrant entertainment and housing precinct in the heart of our capital city.
“The generational impact of this transformation will last well beyond the Games, creating new opportunities for investment and events, and opening the door to bigger and better sports and entertainment for all Queenslanders.”
