Almost 4000 homes will be built over the next 15 years north of Brisbane with the declaration of a new Priority Development Area (PDA).

Deputy Premier and State Development, Infrastructure and Planning Minister Jarrod Bleijie said the new North Harbour PDA, at Burpengary East, in the City of Moreton Bay, would deliver a range of new housing options.

Minister Bleijie said around 200 homes would be unlocked straight away, with more than 3700 dwellings to be built over the next 15 years.

He said the new North Harbour PDA would also make a significant contribution to the local economy with the development of a new marina and associated industry as well as retail, tourism and hotel facilities.

“The new PDA will build on the existing North Harbour development, already home to 3000 residents and recognised as one of five significant projects in the City of Moreton Bay Regional Economic Development Strategy 2020 – 2041.”

Minister Bleijie said the housing boost was expected to generate almost 2000 jobs and add $456 million into the regional economy.

He said the proposal followed the declaration of a new PDA in Southern Thornlands to unlock around 8000 homes and complemented the $2 billion Residential Activation Fund to kick-start critical housing infrastructure across the State.
