An exhibition, featuring preserved human bodies, which has attracted 56 million visitors across the globe, is coming to Brisbane for the first time.
BODY WORLDS: The Anatomy of Happiness is an anatomical exhibition that unveils the inner workings of the human body.
All specimens featured in BODY WORLDS come from people who voluntarily donated their bodies for educational purposes, with over 23,000 donors worldwide having contributed to date.
The exhibition is possible through the technique of plastination, developed by Dr Gunther von Hagens, where real bodies are preserved in lifelike detail, “showcasing the complexity and wonder of our anatomy”.
BODY WORLDS has toured over 170 cities across the globe, with the Brisbane exhibition being staged in Uptown, in the city centre, in June.
The exhibition will feature full-body specimens in dynamic poses as well as transparent slices revealing our inner structures, each display offering insights into how our bodies function.
In addition, visitors can interact with features like the “Anatomical Mirror,” which overlays internal organs onto your own body.
The BODY WORLDS website states the primary goal of the exhibition creators was preventive healthcare.
“BODY WORLDS exhibitions were conceived to educate the public about the inner workings of the human body and to show the effects of healthy and unhealthy lifestyles.
“Targeted mainly at a lay audience, the exhibitions are aimed to inspire visitors to become aware of the fragility of their bodies and to recognize the anatomical individual beauty inside each of us,” the website states.
