Community housing body appoints first full-time CEO

The Community Housing Industry Association in Queensland has announced that Julie Saunders will be the organisation’s first full-time Chief Executive Officer.

Ms Saunders has been serving in the position in an acting role. Her full-time position will start on May 19, 2025.

She has more than 30 years of experience in the not-for-profit sector, private industry, and local and state government. She is also a qualified urban planner and property specialist and passionate advocate for inclusive communities.

Ms Saunder’s extensive career includes roles in statutory and strategic planning, agency development, and large-scale master planning for communities across Southeast Queensland.

She has also held senior leadership positions focused on education sector advocacy through the Queensland Schools Planning Commission and has led major development assessment teams in local government.

In a statement, the CHIA said the move to a full-time CEO reflected the growing demands on the sector and “CHIA’s unwavering commitment to strengthening the voice and impact of community housing providers nationwide”.
