Brisbane City Council ferry services will stop running from tonight (March 3) in response to the threat of Cyclone Alfred.

“All CityCat and ferry services will be suspended from tonight so we can move the vessels to safety,” Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said.

“We’ve made this decision to prioritise the safety of passengers, crew and our vessels ahead of Tropical Cyclone Alfred,” he said.

Lord Mayor Schrinner said a combination of high tides, flash flooding, dangerous high winds and intense rainfall created a serious safety hazard, including that of debris on the Brisbane River.

“The last CityCat services will depart Northshore Hamilton and University of Queensland at 10.15pm tonight and the last Kittycat cross river services will leave by 11.40pm,” he said.

“All ferry terminals will be closed from midnight.”

The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting Tropical Cyclone Alfred will cross the South-East Queensland Coast, somewhere between Gympie and the Gold Coast, late Thursday (March 6) as a Category 2 system.
