A Boonah school has bounced back from the loss of its entire collection of books due to torrential rain last year to open a new, expanded library.
Students at All Saints’ School Boonah started the new year with the library extension, new books and extra resources.
Principal Robert Campbell said the 2024 rain event was a devastating setback for the school.
“It completely wiped out our library’s collection of books,” Mr Campbell said.
“However, the renewed collection now offers students and teachers access to the latest and most engaging resources, including 100 new iPads and 3000 new books,” he said.
Mr Campbell said the newly extended library had also been a game-changer for the school.
“The extension has transformed the library into a bright, circular space that encourages both exploration and connection among our students.
“The completed upgrade includes new flexible workspaces, a cozy reading corner, breakout and digital learning areas, as well as a wide range of new books and cutting-edge technology.
“Flooded with natural light from the library’s new dome skylights, it provides a welcoming atmosphere for learning and collaboration. “
He said the library’s transformation extended beyond books for the Brisbane Catholic Education school’s 130 students.
“As part of the expansion, dedicated digital space has been introduced, including a green-screen area where students can film assignments and participate in creative projects.
“The library also hosts a popular Minecraft club during lunchtime, alongside quiet areas for relaxation.”
Mr Campbell said it was a space that combined tradition with technology, catering to the diverse learning needs of students.
He said the library transformation was part of a $3.5 million upgrade, with the school also sporting a newly completed administration building, classrooms (including a Prep room and multipurpose room), general learning areas, a new learning support space, a uniform store, technology and sports storage, a person with disability amenity, and staff facilities.
