The Principal of one of South-East Queensland’s newest schools is eager to build a community, literally, from the ground up.
Anthony Elmore was joined by Brisbane Catholic Education colleagues today (February 7) to officially “turn the first sod” as work begins in earnest on St Bonaventure’s College Flagstone.
Mr Elmore said the Logan school, which is accepting enrolments for Prep to Year 3 and Year 7 now for its 2026 opening, offered him a unique opportunity to establish a school culture from its inception.
“The chance to work with the local community to shape something from the beginning is incredibly exciting,” he said.
“It’s about creating a school that will stand the test of time and serve future generations.”
Mr Elmore takes the reins at St Bonaventure’s, which will eventually be an 1850-strong Prep-to Year 12 college, after six and a half years as Principal of St Michael’s College Merrimac.
He said his time at St Michael’s laid a solid foundation for his leadership style – one centred on students and community-focused decision-making.
“Being a principal is a great privilege.
“It’s an opportunity to have the greatest impact within a school community, shaping the lives of students, in partnership with families and staff.”
Mr Elmore also spent six months as the Acting Principal of St Joseph’s College Coomera, where he said he fell in love with the Prep to Year 12 environment.
“My time at St Joseph’s is one of the reasons I applied for the Principalship at St Bonaventure’s,” he adds.
“Getting to see my students thrive across all stages of their educational journey, from their very first day in Prep to their graduation in Year 12, is incredibly rewarding.”
He said St Bonaventure’s College would be the first Catholic school in the Flagstone area, providing families with an inclusive and welcoming option for education.
Mr Elmore said the state-of-the-art facilities, set to be completed by late November, would include, covered sports areas with double basketball courts, library and staff facilities, Early Years classrooms for Prep to Year 3, initial classrooms for the Year 7 intake, and a car park.
