A world-first “cliff park”, with three mountain-based adventure experiences, is set to open in the Gold Coast hinterland early in the new year.
Happitat, based in the Binna Burra section of Woonoongoora-Lamington National Park, is set 400m above the valley floor, on a 200m high cliff face.
A spokesperson for Destination Scenic Rim said phase one of Happitat consisted of three ziplines, including what would be Australia’s highest, a “Via Ferrata” course, tight rope sections and suspension bridges.
She said via ferrata meant “iron way” in Italian, and the course featured metal cables, iron pins and foot holds on protected climbing routes.
“At Happitat it’s a completely new cliff-face adventure – tightrope walking, timber log crossings, a net and 80m sky bridge journey, peppered with lookouts and spectacular views.”
She said the Mega Zipline would be the country’s highest zipline and soar 200m above some of the most pristine National Park in Australia at “top speeds in state-of-the-art equipment”.
The Cliff Conqueror adventure combines three of Australia’s highest ziplines.
“And in between, there’s the mountaineering and navigating of daring Via Ferrata sections requiring equal parts courage and focus.”
The spokesperson said Happitat’s opening would complement the re-opening of the Canyon Flyer, at Thunderbird Park, on Tamborine Mountain, on January 10.
“Following the destructive weather event on Christmas Day 2023, the Canyon Flyer has been meticulously rebuilt and now boasts an additional zipline to the seven over the 1.4km course.”
She said the Scenic Rim was also welcoming new accommodation and dining options, with the Sunday House farm stay, on the banks of Christmas Creek and the Logan and Albert Hotel in Beaudesert opening early next year.
