A Federal inquiry into nuclear power generation in Australia rolls into Queensland this week.

The House of Representatives Select Committee on Nuclear Energy will hold public hearings and site visits across the state, starting tomorrow (November 13).

Committee Chair Dan Repacholi, the Federal Member for Hunter, said the Committee would visit Biloela, Nanango and Brisbane.

Mr Repacholi said the Committee had prioritised visiting towns that had been earmarked for potential nuclear plants.

He said they wanted a firsthand understanding of the communities that may be impacted.

“The future of Australia’s energy supply is of critical, national significance. We are eager to hear from a range of stakeholders about the opportunities, logistics and impacts of potentially deploying nuclear power in Australia.”

He said the Committee would hold further public hearings in Victoria, South Australia, New South Wales and Western Australia in December.

The Queensland public hearing details are:

  • Wednesday, November 13: 8:30am to 12:15pm, Biloela ANZAC Memorial Club, 94 Callide St, Biloela.
  • Thursday, November 14: 8:30am to 12:15pm, Nanango Services Club, 24-26 Henry St, Nanango.
  • Friday, November 15: 8am to 2:45pm, Hotel Grand Chancellor Brisbane, 23 Leichardt St, Spring Hill QLD

Public submissions can be submitted until Friday.
