The Gold Coast has launched a Live Music Fund to support the industry in the south-east Queensland city.

Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate said established Gold Coast musicians, venues and promoters could apply for grants through the fund to help with business costs, as opposed to specific projects.

Mayor Tate said the fund would support Gold Coast music venues, independent local promoters, and Gold Coast-based professional musicians to navigate current industry challenges.

“The music industry provides more than $600 million in direct and indirect economic impact to the Gold Coast, while helping to keep our city vibrant and thriving,” he said.

“The Live Music Fund is a part of our commitment to promote and grow the city’s music industry through supporting grassroots live music.”

Mayor Tate said successful applicants could use the fund for business costs such as insurance, marketing and promotional materials, travel, rental equipment, and supplies, with half the grant needing to be spent on the Gold Coast.

He said professional musicians and local independent promoters could apply to receive between $5000 and $10,000 in grants, while live music venues could apply for grants between $10,000 and $15,000, with venue grants to be matched by operators.

Applications close on November 22.
