Business turnover in Australia rose in July, on the back of increased demand for delivery and warehousing services.
Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) Head of Business Statistics Robert Ewing said business turnover rose one percent in July, in seasonally adjusted terms, following falls in the previous two months.
Mr Ewing said the transport, postal and warehousing industry showed the largest rise at 4.0 percent.
He said this was a rebound from its 3.3 percent fall last month and an increase of 8.2 percent annually.
“Other notable industry rises were for professional, scientific and technical services, up 3.9 percent, construction rose by 2.3 percent, and wholesale trade was up 2.0 percent.”
Mr Ewing said the largest falls were for the retail trade and information media and telecommunications industries, both down 1.6 percent.
He said the 13-industry aggregate showed business turnover rising 0.1 percent in trend terms.
“Compared to July 2023, turnover was higher for all 13 industries included in the indicator, except mining which fell 1.2 percent.
“The industries that saw the biggest annual rises were electricity, gas, water and waste services (16.8 percent) and professional, scientific and technical services (8.4 percent).”
